Jon
Crooke makes bad decision
There was shock in the karting industry
as rumours circulated that Jon Crooke of
Hyper Racer had made a bad decision at some
point last week.
Details
are speculative at this stage as Crooke
was unavailable for comment. However, sources
close to Hyper Racer suggest that the decision
related to a stickering incident involving
the finishing touches to Patrick Atherton's
#98 Hyper Racer front fairing livery on
Wednesday 7th February.
Atherton
himself fuelled the speculation that an
incident did indeed occur. "He was
unhappy with the first 'W' in the 'www.hyperracer.com'
logo on the kart, and wanted to change it"
said Atherton, yesterday. "We begged
him not to, just to leave it, but he wouldn't
listen. By the time he peeled off the "W"
he realised he didn't have another one"

According
to Atherton, the only replacement 'W' was
1 mm bigger than the other two. Despite
Hyper's rather wacky font disguising any
discrepancy, Crooke was apparently "inconsolable".
Meanwhile,
the sport's technical governing group, the
Superkart Technical And Sporting Investigators
(STASI) heard of the incident. "The
STASI takes very seriously any potential
technical or design breaches by Jon Crooke.
Er, we mean, by anyone.." said a STASI
inspector. "And some of Jon Crooke's
recent developments have harmed superkarting
by, among other things, making it appear
professional."
|
The
STASI inspector then claimed that the plastic moulding
process Hyper Racer used to produce the new sidepods
was really a deliberate attempt to weaken the foundations
of the Al Aksa Mosque in Jerusalem. However he denied
inciting Muslims to "take up arms in a glorious
jihad against the Hyper Racer infidel".
Eventually the STASI declined to further investigate
the "stickergate" incident on the grounds
that information from Atherton could not be regarded
as reliable. "I know what I saw" said
a defiant Atherton. "One day I'll be telling
my grandkids that I was there when Jon Crooke made
a bad design decision".
Atherton later denied being Jon Crooke's "bitch". |
